Tips and Tricks for Exam Preparation for Students for This 2023

CBSE-affiliated Coimbatore residential schools like SSVM Institutions are some of the most competitive institutions in the country. In fact, CBSE school students consistently boast stellar performances in national-level entrance exams such as the IIT-JEE, AIEE, and AIIMS.

But, of course, competition is not always healthy, especially for young and impressionable children. Your child may end up feeling a lot of pressure from their peers and teachers, and as a parent, you shouldn’t add to the burden.

Instead, it would be best to help your child prepare for their exams this 2023-24 academic year. So, how do you do it?

Exam preparation tips for students for Academic Year 2023-24 in SSVM

·         Start early

It’s never too early to start studying for an exam. Starting early will give you more time to formulate a study plan that works for you, ensuring that you cover every topic and subject.

You can help your child organise their study schedule by planning a set number of hours for each subject. Moreover, you can add a little bit of pressure by setting a timer that counts down the days to their exam, ensuring that your child is aware of their deadline.

·         Prepare an organised study space.

Do you want your child’s study sessions to be effective? Then, make sure they have a spacious area at home where they can study. Their desk should be free of clutter and distractions, only containing the essentials: their books, notes, writing materials, and a computer, if needed.

Additionally, the study area must be quiet and brightly lit, ensuring that your child can focus properly on the topics they’re studying.

·         Use technology to your advantage.

Education is no longer confined to the classroom. Nowadays, children have access to a wealth of information online, and using this technology to their advantage can enrich their learning.

For example, if your child has trouble understanding the explanations of their teacher, you can let them watch an educational video on the topic they’re struggling with. There are also many visual aids available online, such as charts, diagrams, and slideshow presentations.

·         Study with friends

Friends aren’t always a distraction from studying. In fact, they might be able to help your child more than you can, especially if they are in the same classes. You should consider allowing your child to organise a group study session with some classmates and encourage them to discuss topics they don’t quite understand.

Plus, if you’re worried about your child getting distracted, consider hosting the group study session at home so you can keep an eye on the kids.

·         Make use of old exams.

Is your child feeling a little nervous about the big day? Ease their worries by putting them in a simulated exam environment. Practising with old exams will help your child know what to expect during the test, preventing them from panicking when the time comes.

If your child struggles with finishing an exam on time, you can also practise on old exams with a timer so they can find ways to overcome the time limits while answering as many questions correctly as possible.

·         Eat nutritious meals

Too many students make the mistake of forgetting about their well-being during exam preparations. But remember: the brain is only as good as the body carrying it. So, make sure your child stays healthy before the test by preparing delicious and nutritious meals.

Some “brain foods” to include in your child’s diet are nuts, berries, cheese, olives, and eggs. You can even give them dark chocolate for snacks, a good source of antioxidants and stimulants.

·         Get enough rest

Finally, allow your child to take a break when they need to. Rest is especially important the night before an exam, so ensure they get enough sleep and wake up with a clear mind.
